Weekly Roundup: March 2, 2018

Here's to Mortgage Action Alliance for being extremely proactive, to the FHA for extending disaster relief, and to the House of Representatives for passing a bill that's great for our industry.

March 2, 2018
  • The House of Representatives last week approved a bill that would:
    • Amend the SAFE Act to allow loan originators to move from bank to nonbank without having to wait for a new license. They would get 120 days to meet licensing requirements.
    • Allow title insurance companies to disclose available discounts and accurate title insurance premiums to consumers (known as the TRID Improvement Act).
  • More than 140 mortgage leaders have signed an open letter to Congress written by Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA). The letter urges the importance of GSE reform and their preference for the guarantor model over the issuer model.
    • You can also sign the letter here.
  • The FHA has expanded their relief to FHA-insured homeowners impacted by last year's natural disasters. Read about the Disaster Standalone Partial Claim option here.
